Free Credit Report

While we would like to think that the world is a fair place and that good people do not make mistakes, many of us have learned that the hard way. And for some of us, the hard way is through a false credit report.

While this is not always the case, free credit reports can often be wrong. There are three major credit bureaus in the United States (although they do not operate exclusively from there)

These are:

  • Equifax
  • Trans Union
  • Experian

If you are looking for a free credit report, it will NOT be from one of these credit report institutions.

If you do have a faulty credit report, you could end up paying more on any loan you request, whether it is for a car or a cell phone. Therefore it is up to you to get a reliable credit report. You may still opt for a free credit report, but you are taking a big risk.

Also, many potential employers will run a check on the credit history of someone they are going to hire. If that person is you, and there is a mistake on your credit report, it could cost you the job. Which, like having bad credit, could cost you a lot of money and your peace of mind.

Also, you’d be surprised to find out just who CAN access your credit report. The following institutions and agencies all have the right to check what your credit really is.

  • Landlords
  • Utility companies
  • Hospitals
  • Doctors
  • Dentists
  • Insurance companies
  • Banks
  • Car dealers
  • Retailers
  • Investors

If any of these institutions think that there may be something wrong with your credit they may decide to deny you a loan or at best, charge you a higher rate of interest, as you are considered a credit risk. So, don’t take any risks. Make sure that your credit report is accurate.
