Online Bankruptcy
Although it may seem like only a matter of time, right now you cannot apply
for bankruptcy online.
In a way this is a good thing. When you apply for bankruptcy you must surrender
pretty much every single nuggets of your personal financial information. While
Internet transactions are generally safe, there is still that element of fraud.
And, identity theft is the biggest problem with filing bankruptcy.
That said, the Internet could help you in just about every other way than filing
out the forms. In fact, if you are web savvy and you know which sites to trust
or not, you can successfully proceed with your own bankruptcy claim without
the costly help of a lawyer.
If you do need a lawyer, the Internet can help you find one quickly. There
are a plethora of sites out there that can put you in touch with the lawyer
you want, at the price you can afford. This of course is crucial considering
what is at stake.
Unfortunately online bankruptcy professional are barred by law from giving
you legal advice over the Internet. However, you arrange a meeting with a lawyer,
or they can refer you to someone who can help you. This is a very important
step in the bankruptcy process.
Many people do not realize that a vast majority of Chapter 11 bankruptcy claims
are rejected. That right! Rejected. These claims are then refilled under Chapter
7, which has far more sever repercussions, including the liquidation of personal
assets including homes and cars.
So be sure that when you do venture into the realm of online bankruptcy information
your expectations aren’t too high. There may be sites proclaiming they have
all the answers, but all they really can do is give you some general information,
then point you in the right direction.
